Usui Reiki

Usui reiki is where it all started and for anyone learning reiki it is by far the best place to start.

In the beginning there was only Usui Reiki.

Since the introduction of Reiki by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800s, many other branches have sprung up and that is why we now have to define each branch.

But Usui Reiki is the original and the tree from which the other branches sprung.

Innovation is a great thing, but all gifted innovators have a solid grounding in the basics of the subject they come to innovate, and in this case that solid ground is Usui Reiki.

But in learning reiki it is best to start our Reiki journey from source, or as close to source as we can get.

Usui Reiki as Taught by Dr. Usui, and then Dr. Chujiro Hayashi and following Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, Mrs. Takata is as close to the source of Reiki as we can get. And the style of reiki which they used and taught is now known as Usui Reiki.

Usui Reiki consists of three training levels with attunement at each level and the use of four symbols, the power symbol, the mental emotional symbol and the master symbol and 12 hand positions.

As reiki has been added to more Symbols have been introduced and new levels of Reiki Attunement were also thought up and more hand positions have been added.

This innovation of the subject is possible because reiki has not been copyrighted, regulated or hijacked by corporate interests. It is still free and possibly one of the few real free movements left.

Anyone who has learned reiki can then teach and pass it on to others, use it and even innovate it if they feel the need to.

In recent times some people have tried to Regulate Reiki under the misguided assumption that it is dangerous in the wrong hands, but luckily the attempt came to nothing and reiki still remains a free subject.

Learning Usui Reiki

It is not difficult to learn reiki and usui reiki is set out in three training levels which take you from a level of not knowing anything about reiki up to the point of being able to use it on yourself and others and also teach reiki to others.

Each of the three levels covers specific aspects of reiki and it is expected that between the training levels you will use reiki both as a form of self healing and also treat others.

Once you have gained confidence at the first level you would move onto the seconde and then third.

That is how Usui Reiki is taught.

Other branches of reiki have taken out some of the training levels and taken out some of the attunements, whereas others have added more levels and more symbols and attunements.

I suppose all of the new levels and branches of reiki have something to offer but by learning usui reiki first you will have something to judge the others by, otherwise you are shooting in the dark.

I personally do not think that basic usui was broken so I see no need to change it and I have found that Basic Usui Reiki has great depth and breadth and that additions where not really needed. But that is my personal viewpoint.

If you are thinking about learning reiki the choice is obviously yours.

All I would advise is that you get a good grounding in usui reiki first and if you then think there is something missing then there are many other forms of reiki to investigate.

The main thing is that if you feel drawn to reiki and would like to know more about it, realize that it is not a difficult subject to learn and there are many benefits to be gained.

And as this all started with Dr. Usui, Usui reiki is a very good place to start.
